Health care is the treatment and management of illness and preservation of health. It is provided by medical, pharmaceutical, nursing, dental and allied health professions. It includes all products and services that promote health, prevent and cure diseases. A health professional is an organization or an individual that delivers such services to people who need them.
Emergency medicine is the medicine provided by health professionals. They focus on the diagnosis and treatment of illness and injuries that need immediate attention medically.
It involves chronic care management where activities are conducted by health professionals to help patients with chronic diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure etc. Patient safety is a new discipline that analyses, reports and prevents medical errors that lead to adverse events for patients.
A two tier system for health care is the one where both the government and private enterprises provide services. When services are offered by privately owned enterprises, the government is billed for patient’s care.
It works on two models. One is the traditional model or medical model that focuses on eradication of illness by diagnosing it and treating it effectively. The other model is the social model that emphasizes on the changes that can be brought about in the society and people’s lifestyles by these services for creating a healthier world.
The industry that provides services for improving health and for the treatment of the sick is expanding rapidly and aims at preserving the health of individuals. This industry plays an important role in a country’s economic growth.
